Cependant, les effets indirects sur la santé de l’exposition aux pesticides ne sont pas un phénomène nouveau, car l’exposition aux pesticides peut causer de graves problèmes de santé humaine (c.-à-d. perturbation endocrinienne, cancer, problèmes de reproduction et de naissance, neurotoxicité, perte de biodiversité, etc.) et des problèmes liés à la faune et à la biodiversité , même à de faibles niveaux de résidus.
Bien que la cause exacte de la MP reste inconnue, les études identifient continuellement l’exposition aux pesticides et les interactions gènes-pesticides spécifiques comme des facteurs de risque indésirables importants.
Les déclencheurs environnementaux tels que l’exposition professionnelle aux pesticides peuvent provoquer la MP chez les personnes avec ou sans précurseur génétique.
Cependant, la MP peut se développer indépendamment du fait qu’un individu soit porteur ou non de la mutation du gène. Les pesticides eux-mêmes peuvent posséder la capacité de perturber la fonction neurologique.
Par conséquent, les effets des pesticides sur le système nerveux, y compris le cerveau, sont dangereux, en particulier pour les personnes exposées de façon chronique (p. ex., les travailleurs agricoles) ou pendant les périodes critiques de vulnérabilité et de développement (p. ex., enfance, grossesse).
Étant donné que les responsables de la santé s’attendent à ce que le diagnostic de la maladie de Parkinson double au cours des 20 prochaines années, il est essentiel d’atténuer l’exposition évitable aux pesticides pathogènes.
